Obama scares me too

Published by Brent under News & Politics

Lou Pritchett's open letter to Obama. I pretty much agree with every word.

AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA

Obama Spread Your Wealth AroundDear President Obama:

You are the thirteenth President under whom I have lived and unlike any of the others, you truly scare me.

You scare me because after months of exposure, I know nothing about you.

You scare me because I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support.

You scare me because you did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in America and culturally you are not an American.

You scare me because you have never run a company or met a payroll.

You scare me because you have never had military experience, thus don't understand it at its core.

You scare me because you lack humility and 'class', always blaming others.

You scare me because for over half your life you have aligned yourself with radical extremists who hate America and you refuse to publicly denounce these radicals who wish to see America fail.

No New Bailouts You scare me because you are a cheerleader for the 'blame America ' crowd and deliver this message abroad.

You scare me because you want to change America to a European style country where the government sector dominates instead of the private sector.

You scare me because you want to replace our health care system with a government controlled one.

You scare me because you prefer 'wind mills' to responsibly capitalizing on our own vast oil, coal and shale reserves.

You scare me because you want to kill the American capitalist goose that lays the golden egg which provides the highest standard of living in the world.

You scare me because you have begun to use 'extortion' tactics against certain banks and corporations.

You scare me because your own political party shrinks from challenging you on your wild and irresponsible spending proposals.

You scare me because you will not openly listen to or even consider opposing points of view from intelligent people.

You scare me because you falsely believe that you are both omnipotent and omniscient.

You scare me because the media gives you a free pass on everything you do.

You scare me because you demonize and want to silence the Limbaughs, Hannitys, O'Reilly's and Becks who offer opposing, conservative points of view.

You scare me because you prefer controlling over governing.

Finally, you scare me because if you serve a second term I will probably not feel safe in writing a similar letter in 8 years.

ShamWow DOES work on boats!

Published by Brent under Good Times

If you are like me, you spend many a sleepless night staring at late night TV infomercials wondering why you didn't come up with an idea like that. And sometimes, those informercials bother you.

Take ShamWow. It holds 20 times it's own weight in liquid. That's a whole lot of liquid, isn't it? And then the most important question pops into your head. Does ShamWow work on boats? Does it????

Well thank god for the people over at Gaff Magazine. They used a very scientifically rigorous method to demonstrate that ShamWow DOES, in fact, work on boats. Seriously guys – thanks for getting the answer to that question for me – I was really worried about it, and this totally put me at ease. See their method in the video below (the last 60 seconds is the best part).

I have to thank my buddy Cheek for pointing me at Gaff Magazine and more specifically (and importantly) the Girls of Gaff. In a world full of ugly girls and pansies that don't fish, this is a fine publication that gives us all reasons to keep on living.

Phillies fans are residents of Awesometown

Published by Brent under Sports

Another entry in the Pussification of America files. Read this article from a Tampa Bay columnist who is whining about Philadelphia Phillies fans. Wake up dude – where have you been?

From the article:

"Look, this is not a question of Rays fans being sissies."

You are right – this is really a question of Rays fans being outright pussies.

Again – I am tired of us protecting stupid people from themselves. You are thwarting Darwin here. If you are dumb enough to go to Philly to root for the other team, then you deserve to lock yourself in a bathroom stall, and your kids deserve have beer poured on their heads. I have no sympathy for you. You don't see me driving through Harlem with a Sox flag waving from my car. Why? Because that is asking for trouble.

And why would you leave Florida in the winter anyway? Idiot. Philadelphia should be commended for having fans that don't put up with guys like you diluting our gene pool. And for having fans like those pictured here.

Sporting events are great because they have winners, losers, home fans, and away fans. Away fans and away teams suck wherever they are, and should be treated as such. Stay home, and stop taking tickets away from home fans who deserve them.

So Mr. Tampa Bay columnist – quit your bitching about the Phillies fans and get down to business of watching your team lose the World Series. At home. Where you belong. Crybaby.

Fitzy is the man

Published by Brent under Humor

Sometimes I feel like Fitzy is channeling the thoughts in my head. This is one of the better ones. I literally could not have said any of this better myself. Language is NSFW, so be careful. But funny as hell, so worth a listen.

Happy New Year

Published by Brent under Media

Sydney Australia New Years
In pre-New Year's news, Christy got quoted a couple of times on Monster.com

2008 Healthcare Salary Outlook

Accounting, Finance Salaries to Rise in 2008

Pretty compelling stuff if you ask me.

But not quite as compelling as the video of what we did at New Year's down on the OBX this year. Hey hey I wanna be a Rockstar. Head on over to Midwood.tv if you want to watch. But be warned – you might see me with no shirt on, so don't watch right after (or before) lunch.

Climbing the charts

Published by Brent under News & Politics

Bling
Christy made it into a big name this time. She got quoted in Forbes: How Much Is That Key Guy Worth?

The cold truth: "If you are a small business, it is going to be more difficult for you to attract employees," says Christine Midwood, director of survey services for Salary.com, a compensation consultancy.

The cold truth. That's hard hitting way exciting compensation news right there, people! Not long until she's on the cover of Forbes.

Vote on my underwear

Published by Brent under Good Times

No Pants Village

No Pants DayThis is the poll of the day – so you can guess what I did this morning…

When I go to the gym in the morning before work, and I forget to pack boxers, what should I do?

* Drive 45 minutes each way to go home and get new ones
1 vote

* Wear the same ones I wore yesterday and slept in last night
7 votes

* Go commando
20% votes

Voting results between 7 December 7 2007 and 24 July 2008.

I am intrigued by this "No Pants Day" thing. So be prepared. I guess, it's the first Friday in May, which means May 2, 2008, I'm not wearing any pants, and neither should you.

WPI LogoIn other news, last night was my last class of the semester. I managed to get a decent grade in my first class (Numerical Methods) at WPI. Not bad for my first math class in a decade. One down, eleven to go.

More interviews

Published by Brent under Media

Dancing moneyChristy made it into the Providence Journal this week:
Modest salary rises expected in ’08 in R.I.

"Christine Midwood, director of survey services for Salary.com, pointed out that the information in the survey was gathered in August, and economic confidence may have changed since then based on high oil prices and fallout from problems in the housing market."

Doesn't she sound smart?
